Week 4 Wrap Up

It is Friday evening in Geneva. It is the end of another busy week for this Global Intern. Here is a brief run down on the past week:

  • Visit to the European Court of Justice, Luxembourg – key highlights included access to the court library, researching European Union laws, and learning more about the intersection between European laws and human rights laws.
  • Attending various meetings and conferences – key highlights included attending the 18th International Meeting of Mine Action National Programme of Directors and UN Advisors, the 60th Session of the Committee on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, and the 2015 UN Social Forum (this session focused on the human right to health).
  • Developing new knowledge and interests – I have thoroughly enjoyed meeting with people from around the globe who are working in the area of human rights. I have been inspired by my conversations with diplomats, lawyers, researchers, human rights advocates and other interns. I have developed new areas of interest and developed new  knowledge in particular areas, including the human right to health, land mines and gender equality.

This week I have written several blogs providing background context to the meetings that I attended, and the experiences that I have had. I refer readers to these earlier blogs for further information.

Next week promises to be a busy week. The Australian Permanent Mission will be busy preparing for the UN Human Rights Council (2 – 30 March 2015). I look forward in keeping readers up to date and to hearing your comments.
