8th Annual Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy – 24 February 2015

I am privileged to be in attendance at the 8th Annual Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy. 

Background

The summit meets annually. The 2015 session is meeting prior to the 28th UN Human rights Council Session.

Summit attendees include: activists, victims of human rights violations, diplomats, journalists, diplomats and students.

This year’s agenda includes discussions on the death penalty, enforced disappearances and religious intolerance.

One speaker will discuss her experience of being kidnapped by Boko Haram.

This afternoon, the 2015 Women’s Rights Award will be presented to Masih Alinejad for her work on social media. Alinejad created the Facebook page ‘My Stealthy Freedom’, which allows Iranian women to upload pictures of themselves without face coverings.
